Fun fact: I didn’t start eating sushi or any raw fish for that matter until I was a sophomore in college (about 6 years ago). My family just didn’t really eat sushi so I found the idea of consuming raw fish a little weird. That is until a friend introduced me to the “basics”. I started off with the California Roll, a Shrimp Tempura Roll, a Philly Roll, you know what I mean 😉
I soon became addicted and a bit more adventurous. When a poke spot opened up near my house a few months ago, I started going in at least 1-2x a month. Needless to say, I’ve come a long way and now I’m hooked!
Pokirrito Little Italy
That’s why when I was asked to check out the new Pokirrito in Little Italy, I couldn’t resist. I had heard amazing things about this place so I was excited to try it out for myself.
First of all, the location is AWESOME! It’s tucked away in Little Italy right across the street from Ballast Point and next to Bottle Craft so I highly recommend grabbing a beer before or after. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon around 2PM thinking we’d miss the lunch crowd, but it was still pretty busy with people just enjoying the beautiful Saturday sunshine, some fresh poke, and a bowl ramen. If it’s busy, you know it’s gotta be good.
We ordered first at the counter before taking our seats. I opted for the build your own Poke Bowl with 1 scoop of Ahi Tuna, 1 scoop of Salmon, White Rice, Seaweed Salad, Cucumber & Onions, Ginger Avocado, Tempura Flakes and a little Spicy Mayo. It was SO FRESH and delicious. I chose for the spicy marinade and boy did it have a kick! The Frozen Beer was the perfect pairing to cool down the spice.
My boyfriend ordered the Pokirrito Classic Burrito with Tuna, Crab Meat, Tamago, Broccoli Slaw, Butter Lettuce, Lotus Chips, Masago, Cilantro, Shiso Tempura Flakes, and Golden Ratio Pokirrito Sauce. He ate the whole thing and didn’t even save me a bite so I think it’s safe to say it was delicious… I guess I’ll just have to go back to try it for myself😉
Quality Food & Service
Overall, the food was delicious and extremely fresh. There were tons of options to build your own bowl, order a burrito, or even order sushi by itself. If you don’t like fish, they also have Yakitori and Bento Boxes! The atmosphere was also very trendy & modern with tall tables and big lights hanging from the ceiling — it’s the perfect spot for a date or a casual outing. Most importantly, the service was five stars! The manager Allan was extremely helpful and he even brought us some extra sauces to try. We love SAUCES so that seriously made our day. Since I work in Little Italy, I’ll definitely be back very soon!
